We did it! We finally got the $20K fund we targeted, and I've presented the checks to CanAm on 4/12. On behalf of RisingStars Infinite, I'd like to express my sincere appreciation to all 90+ families who donated to the fund. I'd also like to thank Synergy, F&K, and BWB, who made significant contribution to the fund. It's indeed a great community effort!
As a parent, I'm very glad that I didn't have to plan/purchase flight/hotel/rental car, and I don't need to worry about taking time off from school/work next week! I hope my son and all NorCal players are all well prepared and be ready to do their best in the JIT next week!
I truly believe community efforts like this creates win-win scenarios that benefit not only to the players/parents, but also to all badminton clubs. Hope all Bay Area clubs will be encouraged to host more major tournaments in the area.
Finally, good luck to all players at JIT!
(Updates as of 4/9/25: 96.5%, $700 from the original pledged target)
Updates 4/9/2025
Thank you very much for those who have donated as pledged. Now we are 96.5%% of $20K, or $700 short of the target. I have prepared and emailed the donation receipts (tax deductible) for each family.
CanAm has agreed to provide one free open session for players of all families who make donations to the JIT fund! We have confirmed with CanAm that the open session will be on 4/12 6-11 PM. There will be 15 courts available for us. CanAm has recently upgraded their lights and nets/net posts. It will be perfect chance for everyone to play there and get used to the new lights prior to the JIT next week.
RisingStars has set up a mini tournament event on 4/12. RisingStars - CanAm JIT Open Session #13 | Tournamentsoftware.com
Please register (deadline 4/10) if you do plan to attend on 4/12, so we can make sure sufficient courts are allocated for all participants. It's free for player/family who donated already (show donation receipt or check-in at the front desk); and $20 for those who did not donate so far.
There will also be tournament draws set up for those who would like to feel the tournament atmosphere (for U11/U13/U15). Both partners need to sign up to be placed in the draws. For this mini tournament, all scheduled matches will be 1-set to 21 points.
For those who signed up Open Sparring, it's free play, and there will NOT be scheduled matches.
Additional donation is welcome! All fees collected during this event will be added to the existing fund and count toward $20K. Hopefully we will hit $20K target together at the end of this event!
(Updates as of 3/31/25: 95.6%, $880 from the original pledged target)
Updates 3/31/2025
JIT is indeed to be hosted in NorCal! Registration is open and entry deadline is 4/7/25 11:59 AM. Please register early and complete payments in time! (see links below)
Thank you very much for those who have donated as pledged. We also got donation from 6 parents who did not originally pledged. Now we are 94.6% of $20K, or $1080 short of the target. The gap is due to some parents donates less than the originally pledged amount or have not provided the donation. We hope we will collect total 20K fund before JIT and provide it to CanAm to show our support! We will be preparing donation receipts (tax deductible) for each family in the upcoming week.

Updates 2/16/2025
Thank you very much for those who have donated as pledged. We also got donation from 4 parents who did not originally pledged. Now we are 91.5% of $20K
However, we still have some families either have not responded or contributed less than originally pledged amount. I've sent emails and requested club rep's help to follow up. Since this is voluntary, it's totally fine if there is change of plan, but we'd like to know the change so we can plan accordingly.
For those who did not sign up or pledged in Dec, you are welcome to join the community efforts by making donation to help meeting the $20K goal (especially for those who benefits from having JIT at NorCal)

Updates 2/1/2025
USAB announced that JIT will be hosted at CanAm in San Jose, CA. Can-Am Elite Badminton & Sports to Host 2025 Junior International Selection Event (for Pan Am Junior Championships/BWF World Junior Championships) - USA Badminton
Great news to the NorCal community! This should benefit all NorCal players, parents, clubs/coaches, and the whole badminton community. Let's keep our promise to the provide our supports!
Updates 12/14/2024 (recap of events in the last few days)
USAB informed a parent in the other region that they are only considering bids submitted prior to 11/22. Many NorCal parents, myself included have expressed that USAB should honor the deadline posted on USAB official website (12/4)
During the USAB Annual Assembly meeting, we brought up this topic to USAB. Below is the question I sent "Regarding 2025 Selection Event for Pan Am Jr Championship /World Jr., the deadline set to 12/4 as listed on USAB website. NorCal community, including parents from all clubs, worked together to raise funds to encourage our NorCal clubs to bid for JIT. Both Bintang and Synergy stepped up and submitted the bids before the 12/4 (and both received acknowledgement from USAB). We'd like to make sure these NorCal clubs are considered as potential host in your selection process. We saw an email message from John (shared in a public group from a parent in other region) stating that USAB "only considering bids submitted prior to 11/22", which we believe is incorrect, unfair, and disrespectful to the efforts and good will from NorCal families"
In the meeting, John R still stated that they will only consider bids prior to 11/22, but acknowledged that NorCal has the largest badminton population and JIT should be hosted at NorCal at some time. He also mentioned that there is one club in NorCal expressed interests prior to 11/22.
It was later confirmed CanAm did sent an email to USAB in early Nov, so CanAm is eligible to be selected per USAB's "interpretation of deadline",(which we still think it's wrong. All clubs submitted by 12/4 should be considered). In any case, thank you Can Am for submitting your interests early!
CanAm owner did reach out to me on 12/14 evening and discuss the supports needed from the community.
I did confirm that my view and my plan is still the same. We set up the process and plan to execute if indeed Can Am is selected to host JIT in 2025, which include collect and provide the $20K funding to the club, and encourage community support in volunteering / helping out at JIT.
Hello fellow NorCal badminton families!
Northern California has the most clubs/courts in the US, and is full of amazing badminton players, coaches, and families that make our community special. However, even with the most players competing in the JIT (comparing to all other regions), we have not have JIT hosted in the NorCal for at least more than 5 years.
During NorCal Parents Council (NCPC) meeting on 11/24, we learned that at least 2 of the clubs are interested or considering hosting JIT. As a community, we should work together to help bringing JIT to NorCal! In the meeting we agreed that we should raise fund to support the clubs to enter the bid for upcoming 2025 JIT. Since schedule is so tight and we only have a few days left, I'm starting this fundraising / pelage to raise total of $20K to support any NorCal club who is willing to bid for hosting JIT.
The JIT bid deadline is December 4, 2024, at 9:00 AM PST. Support before the deadline is crucial - it helps us gauge our progress and advocate to club owners. Please enter your planned contribution amount in the form below.
We appreciate your support in helping us make this event a reality for our community. Thank you, and let's show the power of our community!
USA Badminton 2025 Host and Bid Opportunities - USA Badminton
JIT cost structure and charges
$20K bid fee
30-33% revenue split
Fees for Junior Coaching Fund and Technical Official / Admin fee ($60 per player)
Clubs to be responsible for hotel, meals, per diem for all technical officials, and other tournament expenses (medals, meals for volunteers, mementos, etc).
Hosting club needs to close the gym for the duration of the tournament and put in a lot of work to host and run the tournament.
Based on the projected revenue and the expenses, to host JIT, hosting club needs to pay out of pocket $7k, plus loss of 4 days weekend revenue (class, court rental income, etc).
From efforts, workload and financial point of view, it doesn't make sense for NorCal clubs to host JIT
Above is based on my understanding of the USAB charge structure and estimate expenses of tournament. If anything is incorret, please feel free to point it out and let me know. The actual expense of the tournament by the hosting club is likely to be more than $10k
Accept the fact that, unless there is significant change in the badminton community, we will NOT have JIT in NorCal in foreseeable future.
Accept that for our kids to participate in JIT, each family will spend ~$1500-$2000 travel expense to fly somewhere else to play JIT.
or,
we can do something about it!
